EOS5D mark2
Until now, I had thought that digital SLRs were not suitable for architectural photography, but this camera changed my perception.
The Micro Four Thirds camera represented by the previously introduced "LUMIX G1" is a mirrorless structure suitable for wide-angle lenses. However, the benefits of bringing the lens and image sensor closer together can be maximized by downsizing the system. Therefore, the lens is compact, and at the same time, the imaging device is also compact. There is no doubt that it is a rational system with a very high balance between portability and performance. The concept of supplementing the performance of the lens with digital correction is also wonderful. I think it's the best system for everyday use.
Architectural photography, however, is a slightly different story.
Architectural photography requires only image quality, not portability or rationality. Image quality is directly proportional to the size of the image sensor. One day, I had the opportunity to compare Micro Four Thirds and full-frame SLR cameras, and I was shocked by the difference in image quality. Gradation and resolution are completely different. I understood well the necessity of a camera with a large image sensor if image quality is desired. A larger image sensor requires a proportionally larger lens. Moreover, if the mirror, which is a relic of the old system, is sandwiched between them, both the body and the lens will become even larger. Neither popular nor rational. However, the only realistic full-frame option is an SLR.
Therefore, I arrived at the three-piece set of EOS5D mark2, SIGMA 12-24mm, and DxO Optics Pro as the system with the highest performance, including cost, for architectural photography. This time, I would like to introduce the EOS5D mark2.
To be honest, I didn't care about any camera manufacturer as long as it was full-frame, but there were some conditions.
1 In architectural photography, trimming of the screen is necessary when correction such as shift correction is applied. For that purpose, the higher the resolution, the more advantageous.
2. It is better to use live view to shoot with a fixed tripod.
3 Since only low sensitivity is used, the resolution and gradation of low sensitivity are more important than the noise characteristics of high sensitivity. Continuous shooting function is also not important.
4 If possible, it is better to be able to take videos.
5 Lens options and future prospects should be abundant.
The EOS5Dmark2 is currently the only full-frame camera that satisfies all of these requirements and is reasonably priced.
In terms of image quality, I think it's the best option at the moment. The resolution seems to surpass that of 35mm film. Gradation is also smooth.
